Due to the lack of news about Caption 2014, you might have already guessed that this is going to be a Caption skip year. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but as the committee is looking into Caption becoming an event that can take place in a different city each year, this will take a little longer than expected to set up.
We’ve been discussing with Al Davison about the possibility of holding Caption 2015 in Coventry: will let everyone know if this does happen, as well as when and where as soon as I do.
We were planning on doing holding Caption in Brighton this year, but found out the University of Brighton was already planning an event in May showcasing local cartoonists (we suggested it could be a joint Caption / UoB event but they want to keep the two separate this year), so if Caption does eventually come to Brighton, it’ll be in 2016…
For those missing a Caption style event who fancy a trip to Brighton in the Summer, find a poster for Graphic Brighton below and you can book tickets at http://arts.brighton.ac.uk/research/c21/events/events-calendar2/graphic-brighton
(they don’t plan to sell tickets on the door, unfortunately)
A shame that a year is going to be missed. But the biggest shame is that Caption will be leaving Oxford. Surely this will be a hard thing to pull off as many towns already have cons and the diary is getting a bit over saturated. Maybe expanding the Oxford con would be a better idea using the ThoughtBubble model.
Thanks for your suggestion Andrew. Unfortunately we can’t find enough Oxford based people to continue running Caption in its current size, let alone as a larger festival. If you would like to organise it and / or put a team to do so, please get in touch!
